4 Cold Tips from Tim Ferriss

  1. Consume at least 18 fl oz of ice cold water on an empty stomach immediately upon waking. In at least 2 studies this water consumption has been shown to increase metabolic rate by 24-30%, though 1 study did show a lower effect of 4.5%.
  2. Take 5-10 minute cold showers before breakfast and/or before bed. Use hot water for 1-2 minutes then step out of the water range and apply shampoo and soap to your hair and face. Turn the water to pure cold and rise. Then turn around and focus the water on your lower neck and upper back.
  3. If you are impatient and can tolerate more, take 20 minute cold baths that induce shivering. (Like all of Tim’s ideas, check with your Doctor before trying something this extreme!)
  4. Place an ice pack on the back of your neck and upper back. For 20-30 minutes. He places a towel on his sofa and does it while watching a film or writing.
